What does Distance Horizon offer?
By default, vanilla Minecraft has a rendering distance that you can adjust. However, you can only bump it up to somewhere around 32. Moreover, it depends on the graphical capabilities of your computer. With this, you are limited by your device's hardware. There is a mod called OptiFine that lets you double this number but it does so at the expense of the game's performance.
Distant Horizons aims to expand your horizon. Like OptiFine, it adds LODs to Minecraft, allowing you to bump the render distance to an astonishing number. However, unlike OptiFine, it does not tank the performance of the game. Even better, it does so without eating up your resources. It even works with less powerful computers. Players will also be happy to know that it works with player-created structures.
However, note that there is still a decrease in quality in further details. However, it is not noticeable unless you zoom in on any part of the map. Players should also note that the mod is still under development. It lacks some features, including compatibility with shaders. The Level of Detail patch
The Distant Horizons Mod’s patches 1.19.4 and 1.20.2 add and refine a Level of Detail (LOD) system to Minecraft. Now, players can zoom out farther and still see in-game details. This phenomenon is made possible by the mod rendering simplified bits beyond the usual render distance, and this allows an increase in render distance without affecting the game’s performance negatively. Besides that, the mod also now allows the fog’s vertical height to be changed. Fog can also be enabled or disabled accordingly.
